I know, it’s been a while since I’ve done a blog, it’s been crazy busy around here and I’ve had a bit of writers block. Anyway, it’s the OFFICIAL beginning of summer! Memorial Day weekend! The beaches are PACKED!! And the traffic is TERRIBLE! Though, this is the case ANYWHERE you go that is a tourist destination during a major holiday weekend!
As much as we all love the extended weekend with friends and family and bbqs and
gatherings, we need to always remember what this weekend is truly about.
This weekend is about those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country! It's about all those kids and spouses who no longer have their parent or best friend/partner with them. It's about those who courageously went into battle to protect America KNOWING that they may never return home. Knowing they may never meet the child that their wife was pregnant with when their number was called.
From the American Revolution to Operation Iraqi Freedom The United States has lost over 1,319,943 service members. This is wars, operations, and conflicts. Every one of those men and women deserve our respect and gratitude.
Whether you agree with war or not, it was what was necessary for our freedom. It's necessary to keep our freedom.
A lot of people get the holidays confused, and I'm completely guilty. Blame it on lack of proper education or maybe I wasn't paying attention. But I do believe we need to be taught properly. Memorial Day is for Remembering. Veterans Day is honoring those who HAVE served. And finally Armed forces day is for those who are CURRENTLY serving. It's quite simple once you think about it, but again, I feel we were never taught properly to begin with.
"I don't have to tell you how fragile this precious gift of freedom is. Every time we hear, watch, or read the news, we are reminded that liberty is a rare commodity in this world." - President Ronald Reagan
"Our flag does not fly because the wind move it. It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it." - Unknown
So please, remember those who have gone before us for our freedom. Please say a prayer for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our Nation. This weekend is SOOO much more than just a long weekend!!
